Hey everyone!! Is there anything we need to memorise for the exam? Do we need to know the general formula for sin/cos/tan graphs??

How do I do this esp bc (0,4) isn't on the curve? Find the coordinates of the points on y=4x^2+5 at which the tangents drawn to the curve pass through (0,4)

(0,4)  doesn't have to be on the curve because it is asking you for the tangents to the curve that go through the point (0,4). If you use a point 'P' and find the y value as well as the gradient at x=p, you can use the tangent formula y=m(x-x1)+y1 and sub in the point (0,4) as x and y and solve for p. This will give you the points on the graph

So I let a point on one of the tangents be p
When x=p, y=4p^2+5 and dy/dx=8p
Since (0,4) is on the tangent, y-4=8p(x-0), y=8px+4
And since (p,4p^2+5) is on the line
4p^2+5=8p^2+4
So I get p=1/2 and p=-1/2
So coordinates are ((1/2),6) and ((-1/2)/6)

Is that right?

I'm having difficulty with the following question:

A gambler has two coins, A and B. The probabilities of their turning up heads are 0.8 and 0.4 respectively. One coin is selected at random and tossed twice, and a head and a tail are observed. Find the probability that the coin selected was A.

My working out was 2*(0.2*0.8 ) = 0.32, but the answer is 0.4

Please help! Thanks soo much :)

Hey! This is how I would do this question
Pr(A given that HT) = Pr (A intersection HT)/Pr(HT)
=2(0.8*0.2)/2(0.8*0.2)+2(0.4*0.6)
=0.32/(0.32+0.48)
=0.4

Hi, I got a quick question for the exam tomorrow. If they ask us to find the 95% confidence interval tech free, do we still use 1.96 or round up to 2? I asked my teacher and everyone and they said keep it 1.96 but in the MAV and neap worked solutions they round it 2 and I'm confused???? Like would we lose marksss ahh

If they want you to use 2, they will say something like "Use an integer multiple of the standard deviation in your calculations.". If not, use 1.96.

There's a few - I suggest you have a look at past VCAA exam 1s to get an idea of what's required :)
From the top of my head though - chain/product/quotient rules for differentiation; binomial probability; as well as some version of the general formula for trig functions. I'm sure there's more though.
